Calamitous calls by Mourinho see Man Utd dumped out

The Manchester United manager made a couple of huge calls in his selection and had to watch on as his side were knocked out by a limited Sevilla team

DominoBet - When Jose Mourinho gets it right, results like Saturday’s 2-1 win over Liverpool can happen and he looks like a master. But the Manchester United manager will long be questioned over his decision to start Marouane Fellaini over Paul Pogba as they were dumped out of the Champions League by Sevilla on Tuesday at Old Trafford.

Fellaini, who had not started in almost four months due to a knee injury, was given the nod over Pogba, who despite having picked up a training-ground knock last Friday had recovered sufficiently to play some part in Monday’s pre-game session.

The result was United turning in an utterly abysmal showing as Wissam Ben Yedder came off the bench to strike twice in the second half and hand the Spanish side a 2-1 aggregate victory.

By the time Ben Yedder had broken the deadlock Fellaini had already been replaced in favour of Pogba on the hour mark, but the damage had in many ways been done.

Mourinho’s decision to place Fellaini alongside Nemanja Matic in midfield resulted in a stagnant United engine room which was far too easily bypassed by Vincenzo Montella’s side. The Belgian’s aerial threat was clearly his main selling point but in truth they were far too disjointed to make the most of it, with a big gap often appearing between their five most attack-minded players and the five charged with limiting the damage at the back.

The Portuguese had clearly made an error in playing around with his attacking midfield line too as he attempted to get the best out of Alexis Sanchez to the detriment of Marcus Rashford. After the England front man’s explosive display from the left against Liverpool he found himself shunted to the right in a bid to get Sanchez into more spaces of his own liking.

The consequence for Rashford was that on the occasions he was able to get beyond defenders and into space, he had a corner flag facing him rather than the goal. And on the one occasion during the first half that he did get into a good crossing position he found six Sevilla defenders and no team-mates in the opposition box.

Try Play Domino QiuQiu To Make A Lot Your Money

This was about as abject a performance as United could possibly have turned in, and there was an air of inevitability about Ben Yedder’s opener when it came. A United move was broken down in midfield and the Frenchman got in between Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly to slot home Pablo Sarabia’s pass. Within four minutes he had scrambled home a second at the far post with David de Gea unable to keep the ball out despite two desperate attempts.

Romelu Lukaku pulled one back but there was never going to be a miracle recovery. United’s first home Champions League knockout fixture in four years was also their last for at least 12 more months, and the inquiries can start now. How on earth did United get humiliated by such a limited Sevilla outfit?

Mourinho said in the build-up that this game and the FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton on Saturday were far bigger fixtures than the win over Liverpool, but that begs the question as to why he took a gamble on a half-fit, ill-equipped Fellaini and pushed Rashford out of the position from which he thrived just three days ago.

In all truth, United were never going to be good enough to win the Champions League this year. But Mourinho will now have to explain exactly why they were quite this bad on their biggest night of the season.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Are Taking a Break ‘Mainly Because of’ Her Mom

The rekindled romance between Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber has been put on pause, multiple sources exclusively tell Us Weekly.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Are Taking a Break mainly because of Selena’s mom and her disapproval of Justin. Justin’s family loves Selena, but Selena’s family has put her in a very conflicting spot because they still don’t trust Justin,” an insider tells Us Weekly exclusively. “Selena has tried to convince her family that Justin has changed … but her family just isn’t budging right now.”

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: A Timeline of Their On-Off Relationship The relationship between the “Wolves” singer, 25, and her mother, Mandy Teefy, became rocky when Gomez started seeing Bieber again after undergoing a kidney transplant and recuperating from complications last summer. (She split from The Weeknd in October 2017 after 10 months of dating.) Though the “Sorry” singer, 24, and the 13 Reasons Why executive producer went public with their reunion shortly after, Gomez chose not to bring Bieber along to celebrate Thanksgiving with her family. A source told Us Weekly at the time that Gomez didn’t think her mom in particular “would approve.”

Celebrity Splits of 2018
“Her relationship with Justin has really affected her relationship with her mom, and it’s been hard for her because she is super close with her mom. Her mom was her rock when she was having her health complications,” the insider also adds to Us. “Justin and Selena decided to take a break to give her family some more time to heal and take in the idea of her and Justin being a couple again.”

Another source tells Us that another contributing factor to the on-off couple is that Bieber “doesn’t care about anyone but himself.” Adds the source: “The second she saw it, she walked away, especially now with her health. She knows she doesn’t need him.”

Arsenal 3 Watford 0: Wenger's 700th win arrests Premier League losing run

Arsene Wenger registered his 700th win as Arsenal manager in a 3-0 Premier League victory over Watford on Sunday.
Arsenal arrested a run of three consecutive Premier League defeats as Arsene Wenger racked up his 700th win as manager in a 3-0 victory over Watford.

Losses against Tottenham, Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion had formed part of a run of five defeats in six matches in all competitions, before a 2-0 Europa League win at AC Milan on Thursday lifted spirits.

Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny were rested ahead of this week's return leg against the Rossoneri but Shkodran Mustafi's eighth-minute opener had Arsenal swiftly on the front foot.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the Gunners’ advantage in the second half, before Troy Deeney – who accused Arsenal lacking "cojones" after scoring a penalty in a 2-1 win for Watford in the reverse fixture in October – saw a spot-kick saved by Petr Cech.

And the victory was sealed for Arsenal in the 77th minute, when Henrikh Mkhitaryan fired in a third from the edge of the box for his first Premier League goal for the Gunners.

Arsenal move to within 10 points of the top four, although the Europa League now appears their most likely route to next season's Champions League.

Despite their impressive win at San Siro on Thursday, thousands of fans opted to stay away, making pockets of red seats visible all around Emirates Stadium.

Those who did turn up were treated to an early goal, with Mustafi heading home from a Mesut Ozil free-kick – Arsenal's 1000th home goal in the Premier League.

Petr Cech did well to block Abdoulaye Doucoure's shot from a Richarlison cutback soon after, before the Brazilian himself forced the goalkeeper into a diving save with a well-taken free-kick, Roberto Pereyra firing over from the rebound.

Play Games Dominoqiu To Make A lot Your Money

Ozil, who became the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League assists by setting up Mustafi for the opener, saw a shot blocked by the legs of Orestis Karnezis after 27 minutes, while Richarlison drew another save from Cech with a header before the interval.

The hosts had to wait until just shy of the hour mark to double their advantage, with Mkhitaryan playing a defence-splitting throughball for Aubameyang to round Karnezis and slot home.

Watford's chance to reduce the deficit from the spot came two minutes later, when Ainsley Maitland-Niles clumsily left his body in the path of Pereyra to go tumbling over.

Cech kept out Deeney's effort with a strong hand – a save that will have felt all the sweeter given the striker's disparaging comments earlier in the season.

And the striker was the target of yet more gleeful goading from the Arsenal faithful when Mkhitaryan made sure of the three points with 13 minutes left to play, Karnezis failing to adjust in time to deal with the Armenian's strike.

Key Opta stats:

- Arsene Wenger registered his 700th Arsenal win in his 1,222nd match in charge of the Gunners.
- Shkodran Mustafi's opening goal was Arsenal's 1000th at home in the Premier League, making the Gunners just the second team to reach the landmark after Manchester United (1066).
- Mesut Ozil became the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League assists, doing so in just 141 games and breaking the record held by Eric Cantona (143 games).
- Petr Cech made his first Premier League penalty save since February 2011 for Chelsea against Fulham – it was also the 16th he had faced in all competitions for Arsenal and the first one he had saved for the Gunners.
- Cech registered his 200th Premier League clean sheet, the first goalkeeper to achieve this feat in the competition’s history.
- Four of Mustafi's five Premier League goals have been assisted by Ozil (two from corners, two from free-kicks) – all four of the Ozil assisted goals have been at the Emirates.
- Henrikh Mkhitaryan now has the same record this season in nine appearances for Arsenal in all competitions as he did in 22 games for Manchester United (2 goals, 5 assists).

AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2: Mkhitaryan's first goal lifts Gunners gloom

Arsenal Team

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal secured an impressive 2-0 win over AC Milan that puts them on track for the Europa League last eight.

Arsenal seized control of their Europa League last-16 tie with AC Milan courtesy of a 2-0 win at San Siro on Thursday, easing the pressure on Arsene Wenger.

Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, his first for the club, and Aaron Ramsey were enough to give the Gunners a valuable first-leg advantage and bring an end to their four-game losing run.

Questions over the future of manager Wenger had dominated the pre-match talk, but the 68-year-old will have been delighted with a clinical and disciplined display from his players against a Milan side who had gone 13 games without defeat.

Mkhitaryan played a key role in Manchester United's triumph in last season's tournament and he continued his fine form in continental competition with the opening goal 15 minutes in.

Milan struggled to turn their possession into meaningful chances and they were punished again seconds before the interval, when Ramsey beat the offside trap to score his seventh goal of the season.

Gennaro Gattuso's men fought hard in the second half but were comfortably kept at arm's length by the visitors, leaving them with a significant task to come at the Emirates Stadium next week.

henrik miki

Milan spurned two good openings in the first 10 minutes, with Giacomo Bonaventura just missing a cross at the left-hand post and Patrick Cutrone firing into the side-netting after escaping Shkodran Mustafi.

Hakan Calhanoglu perhaps could have won a penalty had he decided to go to ground after beating David Ospina to the ball, and Gattuso must have wished he had when the Gunners broke the deadlock.

Mkhitaryan, collecting Mesut Ozil's pass, turned past Davide Calabria and sent a shot off the boot of Leonardo Bonucci and into the net, with Gianluigi Donnarumma wrong-footed in goal.

It was the first goal Milan had conceded in 599 minutes and they should really have been punished further, with Danny Welbeck shooting straight at Donnarumma one-on-one and Mkhitaryan clipping the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.

But on the brink of half-time, Arsenal did score a second. Ozil played a fine pass into Ramsey's path and the Wales midfielder rounded Donnarumma for an easy finish.

mesut ozil

Milan ended the first half without a shot on target and they nearly started the second by gifting Arsenal another goal, with Donnarumma doing just enough to deny Welbeck after Franck Kessie wildly kicked the ball into the striker's path.

Gattuso introduced Nikola Kalinic and Andre Silva to bolster Milan's limp attack, but speculative efforts from Bonaventura and Kessie were about the best the home side could muster, allowing Arsenal to head back to London with a solid lead and a major boost in confidence.

Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy is coming to PC later this year

Crash Bandicoot N-Sane

By all reports, Activision's Crash Bandicoot remakes sold astonishingly well when they released exclusively for PS4 last year. The package collected the first three Crash Bandicoot games, with each built from scratch but completely in-keeping with the original design. After a year of Sony exclusivity, Activision announced today that the collection will hit PC on July 10, as well as Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Rumours suggest that the success of Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy has prompted Activision to take the mascot a bit more seriously. According to Crash Bandicoot fansite crashmania.net, a merchandise company let slip that a brand new Crash game will release in 2019, and that Activision has a "five-year plan" for the furry, um, bandicoot.

Whatever the case, your mileage will vary depending on the power of your nostalgic impulses, and your patience for the game's rather antiquated 3D platforming design. In her review on our sister site Gamesradar, Louis Blain wrote that the remakes were "gorgeous, and a clear labour of love, but the controls might drive you, err, N. Sane."

Higuain & Juventus teach Tottenham a brutal lesson

higuain and dybala

A crazy three-minute spell saw Spurs knocked out of the Champions League as Juve drew on a groundswell of history and belief to assert their dominance

But for 12 minutes Tottenham Hotspur were better than Juventus across two legs in the Champions League last 16. That doesn't matter. They dominated the ball, had the perennial Italian champions on the back foot and it looked inevitable that they would knock them out. That doesn't matter.

In those crucial moments, a team like Juve have the resilience, the fortitude and the brilliance in their ranks to turn matches and ties on their heads and defy logic.

Gonzalo Higuain is a brilliant striker. He will go down in football folklore as a great fall guy because he missed some chances in big matches alongside Lionel Messi. But if it weren’t for the Argentina captain and Cristiano Ronaldo though, then Higuain would be the standard most people would assume to be world class.

Two quick-fire goals in the opening nine minutes of the first leg gave Spurs just too much to do in order to claw back a win in Turin even if they dominated thereafter. That performance left a lot to be desired from a Juve perspective.

There were genuine fears among their supporters that the end of the line had come. The team appeared stale, old and out of ideas. The presence of Andrea Barzagli in the right-back position in his 37th year here in London was a reminder of the need to freshen things up and usher in a new era of success. He was run ragged by Son Heung-min for Tottenham and it was the Korean who deservedly gave the hosts a half-time lead at Wembley.

Then something happened. Across a period of just two minutes and 49 seconds, Tottenham’s fate was decided. And what preceded the comeback was a pair of substitutions. Max Allegri swapped things around with Stephan Lichtsteiner coming on at right-back and Kwadwo Asamoah giving Alex Sandro license to attack from higher up on the left. Spurs did not adjust in time.

RealPlay Games To Make A lot Your Money

Lichtsteiner’s inch-perfect pass was nodded into the path of Higuain and he made no mistake. The striker was signed by Juve – not for Scudetto titles – but for nights like this. He is their big man, their difference-maker in Europe. He celebrated wildly in front of the visiting Italians as the roar went up. He urged his team-mates on, their seemingly insurmountable task now appearing distinctly possible.

When Mauricio Pochettino analyses the second goal he will see mistake after mistake. But from a Juventus perspective, what a goal it was! Higuain supplied the pass and their very own superstar-in-waiting came up with the goods. The key to winning this tie in the end was Paulo Dybala.

Injured for the last few months, he made a goalscoring return with an injury-time strike against Lazio last weekend to put Juve back on track to win another Serie A title. They are that kind of team, with the capacity to break hearts at the last moment. And he is that kind of player. Someone else might have panicked when looking at the whites of the goalkeeper’s eyes here. His finish was sublime.

You could hear a pin drop around Wembley as Tottenham's Champions League dream crumbled in front of their eyes. Juve were finally where they wanted to be, back in the ascendancy.

Spurs, like Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the week, are learning the hard way in Europe. PSG are throwing good money after bad to try and keep up. Spurs are taking a more parsimonious route.

Each came up against Champions League royalty who had history, tradition and a seemingly infinite groundswell of belief. They might not have played the better football but both Real Madrid and Juve found a way.

With a kinder draw, Spurs might have fared a little better. Certainly, they were among the most impressive teams of the group stage – one of only four undefeated sides and with wins against Madrid and Dortmund.

That doesn't matter. There is progress or failure on the line and right now, at the last 16, failure's not an option for Juve.

As Barzagli said afterwards, “We are capable of anything, including 50 terrible minutes and then turning the result around. We proved we are tough. Juventus are nothing if not tough."

Spurs are not yet made of such stern stuff.

US metal tariffs: Mexico and Canada may be exempt, White House says

US metal tariffs

The White House says there could be exemptions to US plans to impose tariffs on metal imports, in a softening of its tough stance.

Canada, Mexico and other countries may see "carve-outs" on national security grounds, a spokeswoman said.

US President Donald Trump has said steel products will face a 25% tariff, with 10% on aluminium goods.

Meanwhile, China threatened an "appropriate and necessary response" in any trade war with the US.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China and the US should strive to be partners rather than rivals.

The EU has proposed retaliatory measures against a number of US goods including bourbon and peanut butter.

Why Trump is hanging tough on trade
Five reasons Why trade wars aren't easy to win
Steel tariffs: What impact will they really have?
Despite opposition at home and abroad, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the US president would sign the measures in by the end of the week, with US media reporting it could happen as early as Thursday.

But she added: "There are potential carve-outs for Mexico and Canada based on national security, and possibly other countries as well based on that process. That would be [on] a case-by-case and country by country basis."

President Trump has previously suggested that planned tariffs for Canada and Mexico could be abandoned if a "new and fair" North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) is signed.

Why is Mr Trump doing this?
Mr Trump has railed against the US trade deficit, arguing that other countries have been "taking advantage of" the US for decades.

One of his campaign promises was to rebuild the US steel and aluminium industries which he said has suffered "disgraceful" treatment from other countries, in particular cheap Chinese imports.

Last week he dismissed concerns he could trigger a trade war, instead saying "trade wars are good" and were something the US would easily win.

Mr Trump has already hinted he could drop plans to impose tariffs on Mexican and Canadian metals but linked it to the US getting a better deal in the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta).

Mexico and Canada are among the main suppliers of steel to the US.

What's the reaction been?
The US plans have sparked worldwide alarm and jolted stock markets.

Critics argue that the tariffs would fail to protect American jobs and would ultimately raise prices for consumers.

International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde warned "nobody wins" in a trade war, saying it would harm global economic growth.

The EU has set out tit-for-tat plans to impose import duties on bourbon, peanut butter, cranberries, orange juice, steel, and industrial products. Other countries are also considering retaliatory steps.

Members of Mr Trump's Republican party are concerned too, with House Speaker Paul Ryan saying he wanted to see tariffs that were "more surgical and more targeted".

Tuesday saw the departure of top White House economic advisor Gary Cohn, who is a strong supporter of free trade.

Trump to hold games violence meeting

Donuld Trump & games

US President Donald Trump is to meet video games company representatives on Thursday to discuss violent content.

The meeting comes in the wake of last month's shooting at a school in Florida in which 17 people died.

The president has in the past expressed the view that violent games were "shaping young people's thoughts".

But the games industry has defended itself, saying there is no evidence to suggest a link between violent games and real-life violent actions.

The Electronic Software Association (ESA), which represents the games industry in the US, said it would be attending.

"The upcoming meeting at the White House will provide the opportunity to have a fact-based conversation about video game ratings, our industry’s commitment to parents, and the tools we provide to make informed entertainment choices," it said in a statement.

RealPlay Games To Make A lot Your Money

Also at the meeting will be the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the organisation responsible for offering age and content guidance for games.

Few official details about the meeting have been provided by the White House, but press secretary Sarah Sanders said violence in games was "certainly something that should be looked at and something that we want to have the conversation about".

Ms Sanders announced the meeting last week - a complete surprise to gaming industry figures, who at that point had not received any information or invitations.

The BBC understands the meeting will begin at 14:00 ET (19:00 GMT).

A report from the Washington Post suggested some games developers had also been invited to attend, including Take Two Interactive, the publisher of the controversial Grand Theft Auto series. The company did not return the BBC's request for comment on the meeting.

The Post also said key critics of the games industry would be at the table, including Brent Bozell, founder of the Parents Television Council.

Mr Bozell has frequently called for a reduction of violence in games.

'Creating monsters!'

On several occasions, President Trump has pointed to video game violence as being a problem potentially affecting American youths.

"Video game violence & glorification must be stopped," he wrote on Twitter in December 2012.

"It is creating monsters!"

The games industry has routinely and robustly defended itself against claims its products provoke real-life violence.

“Video games are enjoyed around the world and numerous authorities and reputable scientific studies have found no connection between games and real-life violence," the ESA said in a statement.

"Like all Americans, we are deeply concerned about the level of gun violence in the United States. Video games are plainly not the issue: entertainment is distributed and consumed globally, but the US has an exponentially higher level of gun violence than any other nation."

In 2011, the US Supreme Court overruled a California law that banned the sale of certain violent games to children without parental supervision. It deemed games to be speech protected by the US constitution's First Amendment.

However, in making its ruling, the court did say the issue might warrant closer examination at a later date.

The meeting is not the first to take place between the White House and the games industry in the wake of a school shooting.

In 2013, following the death of 20 pre-school children and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, the vice-president at the time, Joe Biden, met games representatives from firms such as Electronic Arts and Epic.

Mr Biden said games companies were not being "singled out" and there was no "silver bullet" when it came to solving the issue. He said there was no good data either way to support or disprove claims that games violence provoked real actions.

To Paris with goals - Ronaldo on fire ahead of Madrid's PSG test

To Paris with goals - Ronaldo on fire ahead of Madrid's PSG test

The Portuguese surpassed the 300 mark in La Liga and went off for a rest in the 3-1 win over Getafe as he hits fine form ahead of Tuesday's big game
Cristiano Ronaldo is ready. The Real Madrid forward bagged another double on Saturday and also saw a strike ruled out before being substituted late in the match. It was the perfect preparation for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Gareth Bale opened the scoring for Los Blancos in the first half after firing home a loose ball from close to the penalty spot and just before the interval, Ronaldo made it two with some neat footwork in the area before clinically slotting into the corner.

That was his 300th goal in La Liga, in just 286 games in the competition for Real . But as usual, there was more to come from the prolific Portuguese. After Getafe had pulled one back from a contentious penalty (for which Nacho was penalised despite playing the ball), Cristiano saw a strike controversially chalked off at the other end.

But he did net again as he headed home from close range after a fine cross from the returning Marcelo, back from injury just in time for the trip to Paris. And that was to be Ronaldo's last action of the evening as he was taken off for a rest ahead of Tuesday's big match.

So it is now 301 goals in La Liga for Cristiano, but more significant is his fantastic form in the start of 2018. He has 14 goals already in this calendar year and 10 in his last five games. And after his slow start in the Primera Division, which saw him hit just four in the first leg of the competition, he now has 16 goals in 21 appearances.

Normal service resumed, then. In the Champions League, Ronaldo has been converting all season and he leads the scoring charts in the continental competition with 11 goals in his seven matches.

Two of those came in the 3-1 over PSG at the Santiago Bernabeu last month and two more in an identical scoreline against Getafe on Saturday will represent a big boost in confidence ahead of Tuesday's huge game at the Parc des Princes.

Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane had been criticised earlier in the week as Ronaldo was rested for the Liga game away to Espanyol and Real went down to a late Gerard Moreno strike at the RCDE Stadium.

To Paris with goals - Ronaldo on fire ahead of Madrid's PSG test

However, the rest will have done him good and even though Zidane said otherwise in Saturday's pre-match press conference, La Liga was already lost for Real Madrid anyway.

Not so the Champions League. With Real also out of the Copa del Rey, success in Europe is their only hope of silverware now at the end of this season as Zidane's side look to claim a historic third successive continental crown.

And although Marcelo returned from injury, there is still no sign of Luka Modric or Toni Kroos, and it is starting to look like those two midfielders will miss out on Tuesday. So Zidane will probably opt for 4-4-2 in Paris with Marco Asensio and Bale (or Lucas Vazquez) on the wings and a revitalised Karim Benzema in attack alongside Ronaldo.

As always, though, Madrid will look to Cristiano for goals and for inspiration. Luckily for them, he is on fire right now – and that is yet more bad news for PSG.

Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster to Announce Best Actress at 2018 Oscars Instead of Casey Affleck Amid Sexual Misconduct Claims

Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster will announce the Best Lead Actress award at the 2018 Oscars instead of last year’s Best Actor winner, Casey Affleck, who turned down the opportunity amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster

Oscar Nominations 2018: See the Complete List!
It’s an Oscars tradition for the previous year’s Best Actor winner to present the Best Actress award but Affleck, who won the Academy Award in 2017 for his role in Manchester by the Sea, decided to withdraw in an attempt to avoid creating controversy after he was accused by two women of sexual harassment. Instead, Variety reports, Oscar winners Lawrence and Foster will do the honors.

As previously reported, Affleck is facing two lawsuits after his accusers alleged that he harassed them while working on 2010’s I’m Still Here. According to Time, one of the women claimed that Affleck crawled into bed with her while she was asleep, while the other asserted that he pressured her to stay in the hotel room and “violently grabbed [her] arm in an effort to intimidate her into staying” after she refused. The actor has denied the allegations and called the lawsuits “extortion.”

Start Planning for Hollywood’s Biggest Night With These Party Tips
“I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else,” Affleck, 42, told the Boston Globe in February 2017. “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

The past few months have seen a torrent of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood. After disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was accused by many actresses including Rose McGowan and Angelina Jolie of assault, other women came forward to open up about their experiences being harassed. This led to the formation of the Time’s Up movement, which aims to provide support to those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault or abuse in the workplace. Many celebrities took their message of solidarity to the red carpet at the Golden Globes in January, where they wore black.

Salah more like Ronaldo than Messi' - Carragher

Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian forward has been in stunning form this season, with his efforts seeing him compared to iconic figures at Barcelona and Real Madrid
Mohamed Salah's stunning form at Liverpool has put him more in the Cristiano Ronaldo bracket than the Lionel Messi mould, says Jamie Carragher.

The Reds broke their transfer record to bring the former Chelsea forward back to England from Roma in the summer of 2017.

Jurgen Klopp placed £36.9m worth of faith in the Egypt international and has been handsomely rewarded, with Salah contributing 31 goals and nine assists across all competitions .

His quick feet and predatory instincts in the final third have drawn comparisons to the very best in the business , with Carragher of the opinion that the 25-year-old is now more like a Real Madrid talisman than a Barcelona icon.

The Liverpool legend wrote in a column for the Telegraph : "Cristiano Ronaldo is the prime example of how the role [of wide forward] has changed.

"When he joined Manchester United he liked hugging the touchline, performing his step-overs and terrorising right-backs.

"Now he is completely different player - a goalscorer more than provider. He is disappointed if he comes off the pitch and has not scored.

"He does not want to be indulging in his party tricks out wide because he cannot shoot from there, so his game is all about cutting inside and getting into the penalty area to swell those extraordinary numbers.

"That is why although there has been some comparisons made between Salah’s style and that of Lionel Messi – obviously he is not at the level of either Messi or Ronaldo yet – the Liverpool forward has more of Ronaldo’s approach about him.

"Messi likes to come deeper for the ball and involve himself in the build-up. That is not Salah’s way. He has the mindset of a prolific striker, as demonstrated by how disappointed he is whenever he is substituted late in a match as he craves more goals. It is refreshing to see."

Salah more like Ronaldo than Messi

Salah’s exploits have made him a leading contender for the 2017-18 Premier League Player of the Year award , and Carragher believes he will offer the greatest threat to Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne in pursuit of that particular prize.

He added: "If you had asked me a few months ago who deserved this year’s accolade I would have said it must be De Bruyne, especially given the massive gap between the champions-elect and the rest.

"It will be no surprise if City’s domestic dominance ensures their best player is rewarded.

"But with respect to the Belgian, the more I assess Salah’s contribution, the more I feel he deserves to push De Bruyne far closer than I imagined.

"He has the potential to go ahead in the next few weeks, particularly if he produces a match-winning performance at Old Trafford next weekend."
